Jean-Philippe Richard, sculptor drome provencale France

The adventure started in 2010, when Alexandre Durand Viel, the director of the "Chateau de La Messardière", visited a friend’s house, nestled in the verdant Luberon region. They were there, waiting for him: the garden was illuminated by their elegance, their slender outlines. Thus began the collaboration between the artist Jean-Philippe Richard and the "Chateau de La Messardière". The castle’s park is quite exceptional, with several acres of Mediterranean garden, nestled in the hills of Saint-Tropez. The artist likes to compare his sculptures to "flower maidens"; he has scattered them along a promenade starting at Place de l'Olivier, where a three century-old tree overlooks the Bay of Pampelonne under the French Riviera sky. The sculpture "Isaline" points out the path to us. And so as you keep wandering along the steep track the sculpture garden takes you through pines, oaks and cypresses, toward a small pond where a pair of swans bill and coo; and even further along where one finds the traditional Provencal boules pitch.
